Jo's Boys

by Louisa May Alcott. The final book in the Little Women series, readers will learn about what happens to each of the "little men" as they grow up. They will also enjoy reading about Jo's last scrape in chapter 3. A good book, which I would recommend but the end is kind of sad because you know that it's really the end.

Little Men

by Louisa May Alcott. The sequel to Little Women, this book is set at Plumfield (Aunt Josephine March's old home) and is about boys who go to the school which Jo and her husband started there. While I would say that Little Women is decidedly a girls' book (though boys might enjoy bits of it), Little Men would probably be enjoyed by boys and girls alike.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond

by Elizabeth George Speare.  I read this book once before for the Literary Club which my sister and I were  a part of.  I recently read it again, and thoroughly enjoyed it as before.  Kit Tyler, looking at the shores of New England where she is going to live with her mother's sister and her family, realizes that her life will be very different from the life she enjoyed with her grandfather in the Caribbean.  This book is a good book which I would recommend for Grade 5 and up.  In reading or listening to it, one learns a lot about life in New England in the 1600's.   

The Yearling

by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is the story of a boy and his pet fawn, living in the backwoods of Florida sometime in the 1800's. Both I and a friend who has read it agree that it was well-written, but not a very enjoyable book. On the other hand, my sister read it and thoroughly enjoyed it, so you should probably read it, and decide for yourself whether it is enjoyable or not. I would appreciate any comments after you have read it.

A Goodly Heritage

by George Holbert Tucker is an interesting history of Jane Austen's ancestors. It would be a good book to read if you were assigned to draw up Jane Austen's family tree, and write some facts about each person on it.

The Lark in the Morn

by Elfrida Vipont. This book is published by Bethlehem Books, and as with all the books they publish, is a really good book. Kit Haverard is a young girl who greatly frustrates her cousin, Laura, who runs the Haverard household. After an illness, Kit is sent to stay with her great-aunts at Manningleigh, where she discovers her talent for singing. This is the first of two books about Kit Haverard.

The Birds' Christmas Carol

by Kate Douglas Wiggins. This is by the author of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. I read this heartwarming book every year around Christmas time.

They Loved to Laugh

by Kathryn Worth. This book is published by Bethlehem Books. I got through it in two days, and when I do that, it's a sign that the book is EXCELLENT!

At the Back of the North Wind

by George MacDonald. I read this book for the Literary Club which I go to, and I think that it is one of the best books that the club's leader has told us to read for the club.

The Texas Panhandle Series

by Loula Grace Erdman is an excellent series! Each book focuses mainly on one of the three Pierce girls during their 15th year of life.

The three books are:

1. The Wind Blows Free
2. The Wide Horizon
3. The Good Land

I really enjoy reading all of these books over, and over, and over again.

Something for Joey

by Richard E. Peck is a really good book. I have read it quite a few times since I first read it and I never cease to enjoy it! It is a heartwarming story about the Cappelletti family in Pennsylvania from 1970 or 71, to 1973.

The Singing Tree

by Kate Seredy is the sequel to The Good Master. While I don't like it as much as The Good Master, it is still a good book. It takes place during WWI, and continues to follow Kate and Jancsi's life as they grow up together on the Hungarian plains.

Escape from Warsaw

by Ian Serraillier is one of the best books I have ever read that takes place during WWII.

The Boy Knight of Reims

by Eloise Lowsenberry. The Boy Knight of Reims is a great book!!

Kat Finds a Friend: A St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Story

by Joan Stromberg is a wonderful story that teaches us about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's life as a mother of five children, and also as a nun. This would make a great read-aloud book.

Little House on the Prarie

by Laura Ingalls. Laura is moving away from the Big Woods in a covered wagon. This is the second book in the "Laura Years".
